Case Study about Sweating

Hi, getting bored during -stay at home- days, huh?

So here we go.. Watch this video first, then analyze the cases.

Explanation

Case 1

Sweating is a bodily function that helps regulate our body temperature. Sweating  also called perspiration. There are many conditions caused sweating. Changes in our body temperature, the outside temperature, or our emotional state can cause sweating. Based on this case, we can analyze the presence of sweating in two boys.

Both of boy A and C are sweating. But there is difference between them. Boy A told the truth because he said that he just doing exercise, so his sweat here is caused by changes in his body temperature after doing kind of activity.

Girl B also told the truth. She said that she just awake. We can see that she didn’t sweating. Normally, our body don’t produce sweat during sleeping. The condition that caused sweating during sleeping is called night sweats. Night sweats, or excessive sweating during sleep, are a common symptom in women and men. Many medical conditions and diseases can cause them. Examples include women in perimenopause or menopause; medications, hormone problems (Low-T), low blood sugar, and neurological problems. [1]

While boy C told the lie because he said that he just arrived from school, but he don’t hungry. His grandma didn’t blame him, why he said “don’t hungry.” Lie make changes in his emotional state, which caused he sweating.

Case 2

The boy cancel to buy shoes because the shoes is smelly. Why? Because that shoes is a display one, so they have tried by many costumers who sometimes sweating on their feet. Actually, sweat itself doesn't have a smell. Body odor is actually the fault of the bacteria that live in sweaty areas of our body. Bacteria thrive in moist environments, like our feet. When we sweat, the bacteria break down certain proteins in the sweat into acids.

What kinds of acid? It is 3-methyl-2-hexenoic acid.[2]

So, it's not the bacteria that stink. It's the by-product of the bacteria breaking down the sweat. What is the name of that bacteria? It is Staphylococcus hominis [3]

Case 3

Based on fact, Winda is indicated hyperhidrosis in her hands. What is hyperhidrosis? Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating. There are two types of hyperhidrosis: Primary and secondary hyperhidrosis. Primary hyperhidrosis (also called focal hyperhidrosis) causes excessive sweating in the hands, underarms, face, and feet without any apparent reason. Secondary hyperhidrosis (also called generalized hyperhidrosis) causes excessive sweating all over the body or in a larger area of the body and can be caused by excessive heat as well as a medical condition or medication. People with primary hyperhidrosis generally sweat from a certain type of sweat gland called eccrine sweat glands. [4].

Do you still remember the types of sweat glands? Yes, they are eccrine and apocrine

Eccrine sweat glands. The eccrine sweat glands are located all over our body and produce a lightweight, odorless sweat. The apocrine sweat glands are concentrated in the hair follicles of the following parts of our body. [5]

Winda use antirespirant for keeping her from hyperhidrosis. antiperspirants contain aluminum salts that temporarily clog the pores and keep sweat. [6]
